“A playful rhythm section entrance and solo by Feifke lobs the melody into a flute soli over a bossa nova feel during “Word Travels Fast.” True to its title, the melody moves throughout the ensemble, in—as Feifke describes it—a game of broken telephone in which the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic data transform as they pass through the band while the bossa nova morphs into a more traditional swing. Fun, jovial, even silly at times, the work provides a welcomed moment of levity.”
